Project Watershed is pleased to provide some of its geographic information for use in Google Earth™ on an experimental basis.

Google Earth™ is a fully featured spatial discovery tool, available free for download at http://earth.google.com/   Using an XML format called KML  (Keyhole Markup Language) users are able to create their own features for display in Google Earth™.

These links allow Google Earth™ access to 1:50,000 scale watershed information for the Puntledge River.

Google Earth Placemark DownloadPuntledge River 20k (2MB)

This link uses Google Earth™ to access 1:20,000 scale watershed information for the Puntledge River. Check out the three-dimensional abilities of Google Earth™ with this layer. For best viewing, make sure that you turn on the Terrain group in Google Earth and find the slider tool for tilting the viewer.

These files show 1:20,000 scale or better watershed data for the entire Comox Valley. The first is a large file showing fish streams. It will take some time to download and will slow Google Earth™ down considerably (uncheck it to turn it off). The second represents a few points from our Sensitive Habitat Inventory and Mapping (SHIM) database.

 

Google Earth Placemark DownloadComox Valley History and Geography

The file is broken up into towns, industry, recreation and geography. Not all the placemarks are switched on to begin with; you may enable them by checking the box beside or check the entire folder.
